The honey bee has closed the year 2011 as the third product in Piaui exports, second only behind soybeans and vegetables, but ahead of leather, cashew nuts and pilocarpine. During the year were sold abroad more than 3,600 tons of honey, which meant more than US $ 11.7 million, approximately R $ 20 million in foreign currency. Sale of honey in 2011 was approximately 300 tonnes more than in 2010.
