Global food prices have jumped nearly 2% marking the first increase since July 2011, claims the price index from the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). However, this level is still 7% lower than in January last year. Prices of all the commodity groups in the index registered gains last month. Oils increased the most, followed closely by cereals, sugar, dairy products and meat. Prices mostly reflected worries about weather conditions affecting 2012 crops in several major producing regions, with key growing regions in South America and Europe hit.
