The work was done by the Department of Virology, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of La Plata and relieved 18 viruses that can adversely affect affect hives and honey production, including the virus Israeli acute paralysis decimated nearly 25% of hives in the U.S. in the 2006-2007 season. Also detected other pathogens of concern, such as a mite called varroa, responsible for transmitting a virus that is ravaging hives, for now, out of the country, known as the deformed wing virus. Francisco Reynaldi, CONICET researcher and one of the authors of the paper, along with Hernan Sguazza and Raul Perez, noted that "current global, researchers, professionals and producers we have observed a slow but steady decline in the number of colonies of bees"
