Local beekeepers in the Central Highlands and southwestern region have been ‘evacuating’ hundreds of thousands of swarms of bees to northern or western localities to ensure the quality of their honey under a new technical barrier set by the US -- their main exporting market. The US has recently applied a new limit on the carbenzamin content in honey products shipped to the country. Carbenzamin is a chemical contained in the pesticide used to protect rubber and cashew trees, which provide a large source of honey for the local bee-raising sector, from mold.

Whole fish, small shrimp, natural bee honey, beef and pork carcasses and refined salt and ground will not have sales tax of 13%.

In the month were exported 1,597 tons (- 38.9%) for a total dollar value of 5 million (- 41.7%) at an average price in dollars per ton of  3,149 ton (-4.7%). In the full year were exported 4,159 tonnes (-23.1%) for a total dollar value of 12.9 million (-27.2%) at an average price in dollars per ton of 3,116 (- 5.4%). If confirmed the Yucatan honey contamination with GMO,  will be afected by the  economic impact of  the loss of 150 to 200 million  obtained in the export of the product, which will have to be relabelled to warn that is not any more an organic honey. Another economic problem of national impact would detonate because Yucatan produces annually about 10 thousand honey tons of which are sold on the domestic market only a 10% and the balance  90%, or nine thousand tons are sold to Europe but if the Old Continent stop buying that production would be sold on the domestic market, affecting prices

Reports state that the Gazan Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that although there is an annual demand for 400 tons of honey, only 200 tons are produced locally. The deficit has been attributed by local bee keepers to the ongoing Israeli blockade of Gaza and the resulting economic difficulties. The bee keepers also highlighted issues in accessing their farms which are located near the Israeli border, as well as a lack of necessary equipment for quality testing.

A Bruce County honey producer sees an agreement he's reached to sell honey to China as the first step in selling more products from Bruce County. Earlier this year Guy Anderson completed a deal to provide several thousand pounds of honey for export to China.

In the month were exported 6,085 tons (-27%) for a total of U.S. $ 17.2 million (- 35%) at an average price in dollars per ton of 2,829 (-10%). In the full year were exported 17,184 tons (-13%) for a total of U.S. $ 48.5 million (- 21%) at an average price in dollars per ton of 2,825 (-9%).
