The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), last week presented the latest results of their research on stingless bees. The Brazilian native bees produce honey with a higher sugar content, and therefore more flavor. The native honey bees can be sold by the meliponicultor up to five times more expensive than ordinary honey. In the future these bees can be used to pollinate other crops, which is highly profitable

On Wednesday (8), the Honey House, located in Monte Cristo, rural Boa Vista, went to work after a long follow-up period Agricultural Protection Agency of Roraima (Aderr) and then to adapt the building to the sanitary requirements. About 60 members of the Beekeepers Association of the State of Roraima will directly benefit from this new space. "This will help a lot of people inside, many beekeepers will have a certified product now," said  beekeeper Alves Gilbson

The program is an early warning system to detect new incursions of exotic bee pests and pest bees. The Program involves a range of surveillance methods conducted at locations considered to be of most likely entry of bee pests and pest bees throughout Australia.

Romanian beekeepers ask authorities to adopt a firm position in forbidding the use of last generation pesticides in melliferous crops, such as the sunflower, rape and corn crops, in the context in which at the latest meeting they had with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture there was no clear position stated.

European Commission decided to ban certain pesticides, including those classified as neonicotinoids, known to destroy honeybee populations. The decision was backed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).  But here at home, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is weighing approval of a new pesticide, sulfoxaflor, brought to us by Dow Chemical Co. This despite the EPA own admission that sulfoxaflor, referred to by some as a next-generation neonicotinoid

The deadline for papers (talks and posters) was extended until June 30, 2013. The congress will be held in  Heredia august 26 to  31 2013.
