Beekeepers from  the provinces of Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez y Monte Cristi, grouped in the cooperative Salvador Ferrer, made its first export of honey to the United States market.

Ricardo Brizuela, medical doctor received in the UNLP who served for over 30 years as an audiologist in the San Juan de Dios hospital, recounted her own experience within the apitherapy for Today: "In 1991 I started this practice of chance. That year I was stung by a bee and a pain that had disappeared at the waist. From that moment I opened my eyes and mind. From that experience, I contacted the only doctor who specialized in apitherapy was in Paraná and then I got a Cuban book, which is very developed this theme, which is the best book in the world regarding this issue. "
