LEBANON- HIGH BEE LOSSES IN HASBAYA DUE TO THE BAD WEATHER
Between 55 to 75 percent of the bee population of Hasbaya and Arqoub have died because of severe weather and disease, the Beekeepers Association of south Lebanon said Sunday. Sheikh Tarek Abu Faour, the association’s spokesperson, said that “several deadly diseases in addition to frost and ice that covered agricultural fields were the main factors behind the bees’ death.”
UNITED KINGDOM- VESPA VELUTINA IS EXPECTED IN SOMERSET
The Asian hornet, or vespa velutina, could bring death to the hives of the area this summer if the weather continues to be mild and dry. The hornets kill honeybees and take them away to feed them to their young. Already seen in Brittany, reports of its arrival in the West are expected at any time. The dangers of the invading hornet was one of the subjects covered in talks at the annual meeting of the Somerset Beekeepers Association at Kings of Wessex Academy, Cheddar

Stung by constant criticism of delayed handling of food and drug safety scandals in China, the country’s State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) has decided to talk directly to the end user. On February 26, the SFDA announced the establishment of a centre to deal with complaints directly with consumers.
