Fourth graders from the ESO school first attended yesterday a talk on natural pollination and biological pest control. The conference was given by the agriculturalist Antonio Jimenez, who showed them how bees pollinate naturally and how they are used, along with parasites, to prevent pests.

What was  already anticipated at  the start of the season, was confirmed by technicians in  recent surveys . There will be a significant decline in fruit production as a result of problems with pollination, in turn affected by volcanic ash in the irrigated valleys. The reasons for this situation would be directly related to a decreased activity of the bees, due to the presence of volcanic ash during the flowering period.

The Extremadura Professional Association of Beekeepers  (Apaex) considers "inadequate and meager" the  amount of the amendment to the PP against the disappearance of the aid pollination premium from regional budgets in 2012, equipped with 1 million euros. The project aim is to better understand the pollination biology and biological control of pests in red clover seed production. Two factors are thought to limit seed production in clover; incomplete pollination and attack by seed eating pests. Clover is dependent on cross fertilization by insects. Without insect pollination, the clover seed yield becomes negligible. Clover is primarily pollinated by bumble bees and other bees.

A recent workshop in Sydney brought together honey, pollination and horticultural representatives, universities and commercial enterprises – a first time gathering for all participants in a bid to set up a Honeybee and Pollination Security Cooperative Research Centre (CRC). “The CRC aims to provide the bee industry with new high-quality genetic stocks. For agriculture and horticulture, we want to maintain a continuing supply of healthy and reliable pollinators.

"Action for recovery and maintenance of ecosystems', developed by the Foundation of Friends of the Bees (FAA) in collaboration with the Biodiversity Foundation (FB), has installed two apiaries in two strategic points in the province of Guadalajara. The goal: to promote the recovery of vegetation cover by entomophilous pollination.
