University of Florida honeybee researcher Jamie Ellis is interested in what happens to bees that encounter chemicals and Varroa mites — but he’s even more interested in how younger bees fare long-term after facing those challenges. Scientists have been trying to explain the bee-killing malady known as Colony Collapse Disorder, which causes honeybees to abandon their hives, become ill and die. Ellis’ lab has been studying how combinations of environmental factors — chemicals, pathogens, natural enemies — affect bees.

This insurance policy  provides cover for personal injury and property damage relevant to beekeeping activities. This means that if, for example, you site your hives on other people’s land, including that owned by local authorities, you can offer the landowner the reassurance that they will not be held liable for injury or damage as a result of your activities.

Local beekeepers in the Central Highlands and southwestern region have been ‘evacuating’ hundreds of thousands of swarms of bees to northern or western localities to ensure the quality of their honey under a new technical barrier set by the US -- their main exporting market. The US has recently applied a new limit on the carbenzamin content in honey products shipped to the country. Carbenzamin is a chemical contained in the pesticide used to protect rubber and cashew trees, which provide a large source of honey for the local bee-raising sector, from mold.
